hello all! I start my new full time position at my job today and I’ve been assigned to a more advanced unit than I expected ( as in, I didn’t think they’d transfer me to that team for another two years but apparently the team lobbied to have me and management believes I can handle it based on my work??? ahhhhhh ) so I’m likely to have a wild few weeks but I do feel I’m likely to need a creative outlet, and while I’ve been on @sommersong more, it is my goal to return here and get caught up and work out new dynamics. I hope everyone is doing well and my discord is always open even if replies may be more sporadic as I’m shadowing the departing attorney for the next three weeks and learning my case load!
#them: we’ve decided we’re going to assign you to gfu! we’re confident you’re equipped to handle the learning curve :)))#me both excited and panicking: okay ❤️ yay ❤️#the issue is that my first ‘career goal’ in this job after a position opened up was to eventually be assigned to this unit#my php schedule is still active but the facility is accommodating and I just might need to do less hours a week for a longer period#and all of this was kicked into motion on monday at like 4:30pm so I’m having some whiplash!!! what a month for my emotions.

06&07.july23, fri; internship
my last day at the internship AND the "final" stage of my To-Do List with PHP, HTML and CSS:
add tasks by adding a date, the task, choosing a priority and "+" for submitting
tick off tasks you did with a checkbox
delete tasks
(make it look a lil bit prettier with CSS)
i had to present it (nightmare) to my coworkers at my internship today and it was... quite amazing? i could perfectly explain almost all of the data i put in the code and was able to answer ... most of their questions! :o it was SO amazing they even offered me an apprenticeship???? ahhhhhh (that's what i wanted i'm so so so so happy jkokjrjejjddkfkdkdkd)

When you’re discussing eating disorders and mental health crises in a queer storytelling/studies class and you’re a *bit* too knowledgeable on the subject

#listen. I didn’t go to residential treatment for 5 weeks followed by 6 months of php and 3 months of iop to not talk about everything#I learned while there#this was like 5 years ago so it doesn’t like#get me too emotional or anything. I just know a lot of statistics

look all i'm saying is there are advantages to being the person who has to google "php check if string contains substring" almost every time (while vaguely remembering that the answer is stupid but not what that stupid answer IS)
& one of those advantages is that sometimes it leads to you discovering that php8 actually invented a "str_contains" function when you weren't looking, which is SO MUCH LESS STUPID than using strpos was!
& see if i'd just REMEMBERED about strpos i would not have looked it up & learned about the new better way!
so tl;dr my being a worse programmer actually makes me a better programmer shut up losers i win.
#data structures for assholes#still wishing there was such thing as Code Boot Camp For People Who Learned Shit On The Fly And Kinda Skipped The Basics#or as i tend to describe myself “i write very bad code at a very high level”#one of these 2 current Big Projects is a plugin that when i started it i realized it was legit too complicated to do without OOP#i've been skating by on procedural php not writing any classes whatsoever for like. eight years.#(always on some level aware that This Would Eventually Be a Problem For Me)#AND LO THE DAY OF RECKONING HAS ARRIVED#PROBABLY I HAVE BEEN DOING IT WRONG & WILL SOMEDAY CRINGE AT HALF THE CHOICES I'M MAKING HERE#BUT IT IS DOING THE THINGS

Illustrating how long it's been since I last coded a website: learning that frames are basically, obsolete, made me sad. Learning moduls for galleries though, so, it's not all bad! It's a little harder to learn these days, but it's sticking more than I expected.
Oh! Wait, the part that isn't fun is that last time I did this, mobile devices were simply not really used for browsing and now that's almost everyone so... I gotta do that too! BUT I WILL
#iframe is becoming my friend I GUESS....#i havent had a lot of downtime the last two weeks but when i do...i am practicing and learning coding just to have a simple little art webs#not art#last time i updated php was in 2010...

04&05.july23,wed ; internship
ughhh that PHP todo-list is driving me insaaaane! the people at my internship are really nice and helpful, tho my social anxiety is not really good at asking for help and i keep trying to do most of it myself. yesterday i did not get any further, there was no way for me to ever think of any type of succes. today, tho, i finally connected the mySQL database to my PHP index and i can actually add to dos, give them priorities, a date and check them off as "done":))
i am really proud of that and tomorrow i will try to insert a "delete" button to delete tasks, maybe i'll have some time and add some CSS to it to make it a bit prettier:) i'll see what i can doooo aghhh everytime i go home my brain is smoking tho it is really fun to try out new things and test things out!!
